Behaviorial Intelligence™ Defined

Initiating Behavioral Intelligence StrategiesRaise your hand if you have heard of Emotional Intelligence or the Emotional Quotient. If you were in an auditorium of people involved with business at least 80% of the hands would go up. If you could hear the Emotional Intelligence fans rave, there would be cheers.

Next question: Raise your hand if you have heard of Behavioral Intelligence™. In the same audience many hands would go up, but now, tentatively most hands would eventually go down. And then a brave soul would venture the question – isn’t Behavioral Intelligence the same as Emotional Intelligence?

Such a good question and the answer is “No, Behavioral Intelligence is not the same as Emotional Intelligence. “

Behavioral Intelligence is a set of skills and abilities used to select and execute at will the right behaviors to be effective with people and situations. Behavioral Intelligence requires effective thinking, decision making (relative to what wants to be accomplished) and also effective follow-through behaviors.

Emotional Intelligence is generally defined as the ability to be “smart with people.” Because Behavioral Intelligence includes the awareness, skills and behaviors for getting “the job” done, whether or not people are involved, you can see that Emotional Intelligence is necessary but not sufficient for Behavioral Intelligence .
